A recent report has unveiled a distressing reality deeply affecting the lives of children in Israel as among the two million students who will begin their academic journey in the coming weeks, from kindergarten to high school seniors, every third student finds themselves ensnared in the grip of poverty. This alarming revelation stems from a study conducted by Latet, an umbrella organization that brings together 180 nonprofit charitable organizations.

The statistics are staggering: over 52,830 first-grade students are trapped in the cycle of poverty. However, behind these cold numbers lies a heart-rending narrative as a study conducted among 1,200 aid beneficiaries paints a bleak picture as it reveals that 36% of parents are forced to make the gut-wrenching decision to have their children skip meals to ease the financial burden, and 26% have no choice but to send their children to school without lunch or a snack.

Furthermore, the study underscores that 69% of these families cannot provide their children with basic schoolbooks, and a staggering 75% fear they will be unable to meet the school’s fee requirements. This is a harrowing reality that no child should endure, instead of thriving and discovering their potential, these young minds are grappling with the harsh realities of poverty.

This report serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action. It is a call to unite as a society to ensure that every child has equal opportunities, free from the chains of poverty.

Furthermore, it’s crucial to note that the situation worsens even more in places like Sderot, located in the border area with Gaza, as our community has been severely affected by the ongoing conflict, leaving families in an extremely vulnerable position.

Children in Sderot face additional challenges due to the constant threat of attacks and the psychological trauma that comes with it as the instability in the region has led to a decrease in job availability and economic opportunities, further exacerbating poverty rates within these families.

Our Ongoing Commitment to Making a Difference

At the City Of Life Outreach Center, we remain deeply committed to addressing the challenges faced by families in Sderot and the border areas near the Gaza Strip. We are dedicated to staying attuned to their needs and continuously seeking effective ways to provide assistance.

As part of our ongoing efforts to ease the financial burden associated with the start of the school year, we have once again launched our “Back to School” project, an initiative that focuses on distributing essential school supplies to children in need, particularly high-quality backpacks designed to withstand the rigors of carrying books and school materials throughout the year. We understand the importance of these items in ensuring that students can pursue their education without discomfort or strain.

This year, over 200 children eagerly received their new backpacks, brimming with excitement as they prepared to return to school. Their enthusiasm and joy were palpable, reminding us of the positive impact we can make by coming together to support our community.

Equally heartwarming were the expressions of gratitude from parents who rely on our assistance and their appreciation serves as a testament to the importance of our work and the positive change we bring to their lives.

For families facing various challenges that prevented them from attending our distribution event at our center, our compassionate team made special arrangements to deliver backpacks directly to their homes. This ensured that no child in need would be left without receiving the essential school supplies they require.

You have the opportunity to join us in blessing these individuals and being part of this obedient commitment as countless families await our support, and together, we can make a difference. Your involvement can impact lives in our city, leading them toward the way, the truth, and the life.

You can be part of and impact the lives of more people who need help in our city and together show them the way, the truth and the life.

We invite you to be part of our ministry so that together we can bring hope to our border town of Sderot.

Our work would not be possible without the help of partners like you, so we ask you to consider in prayer the possibility of a monthly commitment that will allow us to continue with the Lord’s work here in Israel.

Sincerely yours
