Ukraine Needs Us!

For many years our ministry has taken seriously our goal of helping and supporting the most needy in Israel by bringing them hope, peace and comfort with the love of the father and we have invested all our efforts in this to achieve it.

However, seeing what is happening in Ukraine, our ministry cannot remain silent, understanding from our own experience what it is like to suffer indiscriminate missile attacks against the civilian population and to have to listen to the constant sirens announcing that you must run to the bomb shelters to save life.

We therefore decided that it is time to express our support for Ukraine and its people, with its large Jewish community and one of the places with the largest number of believers in Europe.

We are in touch with different communities in four cities of Ukraine that are active in helping the local population and refugees in the interior of Ukraine, and we are trying to find help and possibly support for their work in these difficult days.

The security situation in Ukraine rapidly deteriorated following the launch of a military offensive by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022. Armed violence escalated in many regions, including Kyivska and the capital Kyiv, as well as in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, already heavily affected by the conflict.

The escalation of the conflict has led to an urgent and sharp increase in humanitarian needs, as essential supplies and services have been disrupted and civilians are forced to flee the fighting.

According to the UN, 12 million people in Ukraine will need help and protection, while more than four million Ukrainian refugees may need protection in neighboring countries in the coming months.

The number of children who have remained at home in Ukraine was estimated at 3.2 million and it is estimated that about half are at risk of running out of food.

Furthermore, attacks on water infrastructure and power outages have left some 1.4 million people without access to water in Ukraine and another 4.6 million people with only limited access.

The situation is even worse in cities like Mariupol and Kherson, where children and their families have been without running water and sanitation, regular food supplies, or medical care for weeks.

They are sheltering in their homes and underground, waiting for the bombs and violence to stop.

Hundreds of schools and educational facilities have been attacked or used for military purposes. Others serve as shelters for civilians.

A problem with a much broader context when considering that in six weeks almost two-thirds of all Ukrainian children have been displaced. They have been forced to leave everything behind: their homes, their schools and often their relatives, and alerts of the danger they run of suffering violence, abuse, exploitation and human trafficking.

The war in Ukraine continues to cause immense suffering to people and, according to early estimates, close to two decades of socio-economic progress could be lost if the war continues, as nine out of ten people are at risk of falling into poverty, according to the UN.
