In the heart of Israel lies a captivating wonder known as the blooming desert. This unique phenomenon showcases the fleeting beauty of nature, as in just a couple of months, the arid landscape will be transformed into a dry expanse. However, during this transitional period between winter and spring, the desert awakens, adorned with vibrant greenery and blossoms, as if fulfilling a prophecy before our very eyes.
Symbolizing this enchanting transformation are the anones kalot, or the kalaniot in Hebrew. These magnificent flowers derive their name from the Hebrew word “kala,” meaning bright, an apt description given their radiant beauty. In fact, the kalanit was chosen as the national flower of the state of Israel in 2013.
Each year, the blooming of these captivating flowers in the desert surrounding the Gaza Strip marks the occasion for a grand festival known as D’adom Hamarbeh, meaning “The Great Red South.” This highly anticipated event attracts people from all across the country, celebrating the splendor of nature’s resilience.
However, in 2024, this joyous festival was marred by the outbreak of war initiated by Hamas on October 7th. Tragically, on the same day, the festival’s long-time director and the head of the Regional Council of Sha’ar HaNegev lost his life in a heroic shootout, defending the residents of Kibbutz Nirim against terrorists.

Despite the events that unfolded on October 7th in the Gaza region, the residents of southern Israel remain steadfast in their belief that life will continue to flourish in the Negev, akin to the annual blossoming of the desert. They draw strength from the words written, “Even the most desolate parts of your ruined land will soon be crowded with your people… Your enemies who enslaved you will be far away.”
In these prophetic times, the people of Israel yearn for peace and harmony in Jerusalem and the entire nation. They stand as a testament to resilience and hope, confident that the blooming desert of the Negev will forever signify the triumph of life over adversity.

Our goal is to alleviate suffering and restore hope, reminding each family that they are not alone in this battle. Together, we move towards a brighter tomorrow, trusting in the promise of comfort and restoration found in our shared faith.
As families return to Sderot and the southern region of Israel, our ministry is ramping up efforts to provide ongoing support. We recognize the challenges they face in rebuilding their lives and are committed to standing by their side every step of the way. Our aim is to offer not only practical and material assistance but also emotional comfort and hope for a brighter future. We continue to work tirelessly to ensure these families know they are not alone on their journey toward recovery and reconstruction.

Thanks for being part of this effort. Your support and kindness are helping us make a big impact in the lives of those who need it most.

You can be part of and impact the lives of more people who need help in our city and together show them the way, the truth and the life.
We invite you to be part of our ministry so that together we can bring hope to our border town of Sderot.
