The return to normalcy for families in Sderot after the recent traumatic events poses numerous challenges as they seek to rebuild their lives and overcome emotional and economic aftermath.
Families in Sderot are grappling with the emotional impact of traumatic events, especially the children who have experienced terrifying situations and losses. Fear, anxiety, and psychological trauma are significant challenges affecting the mental health of the community.
The city faces economic difficulties stemming from the disruption of daily life and property destruction. Many families lost their livelihoods during the war, adding an extra financial burden as they try to rebuild and recover.
Furthermore, the sense of security has been affected, and families struggle to trust existing protective measures. Concerns about persistent vulnerability and the possibility of future traumatic events create an atmosphere of uncertainty.
A Sderot Family Recounts their Harrowing Experience During Recent Attacks

Amidst the recent attacks in the region, the Lez family, residents of Sderot since 2010, has undergone moments of terror and anguish that have left an indelible mark on their lives.
On October 7th, while the family was at home with their five children, the city was shaken by the sound of gunfire and the presence of terrorists in their neighbourhood. Ephra Lez vividly recalls: “I heard the shots and witnessed terrifying scenes from our windows. At that moment, we felt that our refuge, God, was our only true defence.”
The situation worsened as the family, along with the entire community, had to live without electricity, water, and with windows sealed shut for three distressing days. Sulema Lez shares her experience: “It was a moment of panic, where we had to rely on each other and God for comfort. The support from our congregation and the assistance we received during this difficult time were truly heartwarming.”
Now evacuated to Shoresh, the Lez family is immensely grateful for the assistance and support provided by the City of Life community. Ephra expresses, “We want to express our deepest gratitude to the City of Life ministry for standing with us during these challenging times. Your help has been a lifeline for our family, and we will forever be thankful for your support.”
Amidst the chaos and uncertainty, families like the Lez, with young children in tow, faced unimaginable challenges. The traumatic experiences of witnessing violence and living in constant fear have left deep scars that will endure for a lifetime. For children who have grown up amidst the sirens and gunfire, the psychological impact is profound, affecting their sense of safety and security.
The Lez children, like many others in Sderot and neighbouring communities, will carry the weight of these events with them into the future. Their innocence has been shattered by the harsh realities of conflict, and their young minds must grapple with fears and anxieties far beyond their years. As they try to make sense of the world around them, they will need ongoing support and care to heal from the trauma they have endured. The road to recovery will be long and challenging, but with the support of prayers and help like the one that City of Life offers, there is hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Thanks for being part of this effort. Your support and kindness are helping us make a big impact in the lives of those who need it most.
Join us in making a difference during these challenging times. Your support can bring relief and hope to families enduring the impact of the conflict. By standing with City of Life, you become a vital part of our calling to alleviate suffering and inspire resilience in the hearts of those facing adversity. You can be part of and impact the lives of more people who need help in our city and together show them the way, the truth and the life.
We invite you to be part of our ministry so that together we can bring hope to our border town of Sderot.
Our work would not be possible without the help of partners like you, so we ask you to consider in prayer the possibility of a monthly commitment that will allow us to continue with the Lord’s work here in Israel.

Sincerely yours
