Yom Yerushalaim, the Jerusalem Day, commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Jewish control over the historic Old City during the Six-Day War in 1967.
This day is a great celebration for the Jewish people and for Christians, represents the fulfillment of biblical prophecies that highlight the importance of Jerusalem in the end times. This day also has a deep spiritual significance as for believers who understand biblical prophecies, the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967 is seen as the fulfillment of God’s promises concerning the holy city.
In the book of Zechariah, for example, the Bible speaks of a time when Jerusalem will be a “cup of trembling” for all the surrounding peoples. Zechariah 12:2 says: “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem.”

The recovery of the city after almost two millennia of foreign rule can be seen as a sign that God is fulfilling His promises.
In Luke 21:24, Jesus speaks of Jerusalem and says: “And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”
The reunification of the city in 1967 indicated that these “times of the Gentiles” have come to an end, marking a significant phase in the prophetic calendar. Ezekiel 36:24-28 is also relevant in this context. God promises: “For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land… Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God.”

As we see, the return of the Jewish people to their land and the restoration of Jerusalem are for sure the fulfillment of these promises of God’s redemption to His people Israel. So Yom Yerushaláim is more than ever the time to renew our commitment to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, as it is written in Psalm 122:6: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you.” It is a moment to remember that despite the challenges, God’s promise for Jerusalem and His people remains in effect.
It is a moment to remember that despite the challenges, God’s promise for Jerusalem and His people remains in effect. On this Jerusalem Day, let us unite in prayer for the situation of the country and for the Lord to pour out His Spirit and reveal His face to His people. Shalom from Jerusalem.
