This week in Israel, the nation marked Yom HaShoah, the Holocaust Remembrance Day. Across the country, sirens sounded as people paused to remember the six million Jews who perished in Europe.
In Sderot, the community gathered for a meaningful ceremony, made possible this year by a temporary ceasefire. As in previous years, one Holocaust survivor was chosen to lay a wreath in memory of the victims. This time, that honor was given to Tamara, who will soon turn 90, representing both her personal story and the memory of so many.
For survivors, remembrance is not distant history. It is personal and present. And in a time when antisemitism is rising again and Israel continues to face real threats, their voices carry a renewed urgency.
