Preparation & Prayer: Lessons from the October 7th Invasion

Since its founding, Israel has lived under constant threat. Over the decades, the country has faced wars, intifadas, terrorist attacks, and thousands of missiles. Cities like Sderot, located in the south near the Gaza border, have been on the frontline for years.

Sometimes the clashes intensify; other times, there are short moments of calm. But the tension never truly goes away. This reality has left deep scars, especially on the most vulnerable, elderly residents marked by years of conflict, and children growing up with fear as part of their everyday lives.

In this land, peace has never been a gift. It is a hope pursued day by day.

On October 7, 2023, that fragile calm was brutally shattered. In Sderot, many families were left alone for days, hiding without information, without contact with the outside world. That fear left a lasting mark and exposed a painful truth: many households were simply unprepared for an emergency of such magnitude.

In the wake of that trauma, one thing became clear, preparation is not optional. It is essential.

That’s why we organized a large-scale distribution of war emergency kits, designed for situations where communication might fail or help may be delayed. These kits include flashlights, battery-powered radios, first-aid supplies, portable chargers, batteries, and other essential items. They are simple tools, but in times of conflict, they can make a real difference.

More than just practical, each of these kits carries a clear message to those receiving them: “You are not alone.”

Today, just as in the early days of Israel’s establishment, we remain surrounded by constant and very real threats, Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, even the Houthis. Peace seems more distant than ever. And yet, we do not lose hope. We hold on to the promise of Scripture:

The Word of God calls us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). But in our experience as Israelis, the reality is that there has never been peace in the Middle East. So what are we praying for?
When faithful ones intercede for Jerusalem, even if peace doesn’t come, they activate God’s promise of protection that does come in miraculous ways, in each time of danger. So your role is essential: once you pray for the peace of Jerusalem, you are standing in the gap for our lives.

Thank you for being part of this journey, and Am Israel Chai!
