As the biblical feast of Rosh Hashanah, also called Yom Teruah, approaches, the city of Sderot is preparing for a season of reflection, renewal, and hope. This holiday is marked by the sound of the shofar, a call that resonates not only in our ears but in our hearts, reminding us to turn back to God, to repent, and to look forward with faith.
In Leviticus 23, the Lord commanded Israel to pause on this day, to rest, and to hear the sound of the trumpet. That sound was never meant to be only a tradition; it is a spiritual wake-up call. It stirs us from routine and invites us to align our lives with His presence. Even today, the blast of the shofar carries the same power, to awaken our souls and bring us closer to Him.
Here in Sderot, this season has a special meaning. Our community has faced many challenges, yet the call of the shofar reminds us that God has not forgotten us. In preparation for the holiday, our ministry, City of Life, organized a special distribution for local families and seniors. Alongside food, we were able to provide household essentials that bring comfort and relief in daily life. For many, these simple gifts meant more than practical help, they were a reminder that they are seen, loved, and not alone.
As we listened together to the sound of the shofar, people shared what Rosh Hashanah means to them: new beginnings, peace, and a longing for a better future. One voice said, “The sound of the shofar touches my heart and gives me hope.” That hope is what we wish for every family in Sderot and throughout Israel in this new year. hope rooted in faith, trust, and the goodness of God.

As we step into this new year, our prayer is that the sound of the shofar will not only echo through the streets of Israel but also through the hearts of all who listen, drawing them closer to the Lord. May this season be a reminder that even in the most difficult places, God’s light continues to shine, bringing comfort, provision, and hope to His people.
Shana Tova! May the year ahead be filled with blessing, peace, and renewed strength.
