After God delivered the children of Israel from slavery, the first challenge they faced was the wilderness. Yet this was no accident. God chose the desert as a place to meet His people face to face. Throughout the Bible, we see that the wilderness was a common place for encounters with God. It was in these quiet, isolated places that He spoke to prophets and inspired the words of Scripture.
The wilderness speaks. In Hebrew, we call it “Midbar Medaber”: the desert has a voice.
Today, the deserts we walk through in life can also speak into our hearts. Away from the noise, distractions, and constant information of our world, we find a space to listen to God. In the silence, our minds can rest, and our hearts can hear His voice clearly.
Throughout history, the most influential servants of God were shaped in the wilderness. Moses received his calling at the burning bush, Elijah was fed miraculously in the desert, and Yeshua was led into the wilderness to be tested and strengthened. Even Paul spent time in the desert seeking God before becoming the apostle we know today. The wilderness is a place of transformation, refining, and preparation.

If you are going through your own wilderness season, don’t give up. Take time to step aside, be still, and seek the Lord. Let Him speak into your life and shape you for what He has prepared.
Your desert is not a place of emptiness, but a place of encounter, growth, and transformation. Take a moment today to listen and connect with Him.
