Today, on Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day), we celebrate the city chosen by God to reveal His presence, the place where heaven and earth meet.
Jerusalem is where Abraham offered Isaac on Mount Moriah, where Solomon built the First Temple, and where Jesus, the Messiah, gave Himself as the ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of all humanity. It is from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem that He ascended to heaven, and it is to this very place that He promised to return.
Mount Zion, also in Jerusalem, became a symbol of the eternal bond between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel, the heart of biblical Zionism. It was here, during the Feast of Weeks (Shavuot), that the Holy Spirit descended upon the first Jewish followers of Jesus.
In 1967, during the Six-Day War, Jerusalem was reunited under Jewish sovereignty after nearly 2,000 years, a powerful fulfillment of biblical prophecy. As written in the Gospel of Luke, “Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” That time is now.
Today, we remember that God’s promises for Jerusalem still stand. We are called to pray for the peace of this holy city and for His Spirit to be poured out over the people of Israel.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May those who love you prosper. (Psalm 122:6)
Jerusalem Day is therefore of great importance, it is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy and living proof that the Lord is faithful to His promises.
