This week, Israel marks Independence Day, following a solemn day of remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the nation. This powerful transition reminds us that the freedom Israel celebrates today has come at a great cost. It is a reality that continues to shape daily life in this land, where the need to defend and protect is not a distant memory, but an ongoing responsibility.
In this context, we sat down with Ilana, a young former IDF soldier from Sderot, who shared her personal experience of serving in the army. Speaking about her time in uniform, Ilana spoke about the deep sense of unity among soldiers, especially in difficult moments. “We gave strength to each other,” she explained, highlighting how faith, shared experiences, and mutual support create a strong bond between those who serve. At the same time, she addressed the pain of seeing hostility toward the IDF around the world.
According to her, much of this comes from misunderstanding: “There’s a huge gap… if people really understood what’s happening here, I don’t think this hatred would exist.” She pointed to social media and headlines as major sources of misinformation, often disconnected from the reality on the ground.
Her message is a reminder that behind every uniform there is a person, a family, and a story. As Ilana said, “They’re people just like me, like you… they want to live in peace.”

This Independence Day, we invite you not only to watch her full interview, but also to stand with Israel. Pray for the nation, for its people, and for the soldiers who continue to defend this land. Stay connected with us as we continue to support those on the front lines.
