Israel is a country with a rich archaeological heritage that has fascinated historians and Bible scholars for centuries as from the deserts of the Negev to the rolling hills of Galilee, Israel is home to a vast number of biblical sites that visitors can explore and discover.

One of the most fascinating things about Israel’s archaeological heritage is that new discoveries are still being made to this day, for example, in recent years, excavations in Jerusalem have uncovered ancient structures and artifacts dating back to the time of King David and even earlier.

Biblical archaeology in Israel is an ever-expanding field, with new discoveries shedding light on the lives and cultures of people who lived thousands of years ago and in recent years, some truly remarkable discoveries have been made, providing evidence for stories that were once thought to be mere myths.

One of the most significant discoveries in recent years is the excavation of the ancient city of David in Jerusalem and this excavation has uncovered the remains of a massive fortress that dates back to the 10th century BCE, providing evidence for the existence of a powerful kingdom in Israel at that time. The excavation has also revealed an elaborate water system, which would have been vital for the city’s survival.

Another important discovery is the identification of the site of ancient Bethsaida, the hometown of several of Jesus’ disciples, including Peter, Andrew, and Philip, that was identified using the accounts of the first-century historian Josephus, and archaeological excavations have since confirmed it.

Excavations in the city of Megiddo have also provided fascinating insights into the past. This city was an important center of administration and military power in ancient Israel. Archaeologists have uncovered an impressive system of fortifications, including massive walls and gates, which would have protected the city from invasion.

The field of biblical archaeology in Israel continues to expand and provide insights into the lives and cultures of people who lived thousands of years ago providing fascinating glimpses into the past, and help us to better understand the world of the Bible and with ongoing excavations and new technologies, there is no doubt that even more discoveries lie ahead.

Touring The Biblical Land

The “City of Life” ministry recently organized a biblical tour for a group of non-believers in which we explored the Galilee region and visited the ancient site of Magdala learning more about the Bible and listening to teachings about the Messiah Yeshua in more detail.

The archaeological site of Magdala is located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee and is known for its rich history and significance in both Jewish and Christian traditions as Magdala is believed to be the birthplace of Mary Magdalene, from the New Testament.

The site features the remains of a first-century synagogue, which is one of the oldest synagogues ever discovered in Israel and was likely used by Jews who lived in the region during the Second Temple period, as well as a marketplace, residential quarters, and a purification bath, which was likely used by Jews before entering the synagogue providing insight into the daily life and practices of the people who lived in the region over two thousand years ago.

These biblical tours serve as a way for people to enjoy and distract themselves from the difficult lives they lead, particularly in areas like Sderot, which are constantly under threat from terrorism and missiles fired from Gaza, giving them the opportunity to have a day of relax traveling focusing on exploring and additionally, we were able to plant a seed of the love of the Heavenly Father who sent the Messiah to save humanity in the hearts of the participants.

We in the “City of Life” ministry believe that these tours can serve as a powerful way to help people find peace and hope in the midst of life’s difficulties and through this experience, we were able to not only learn more about the Bible but also to connect with one another and build a sense of community.

At the end of the tour, the participants, many of them new immigrants who toured this part of Israel and were able to listen about the God of Israel for the first time, expressed their gratitude for the wonderful experience and the chance to learn and share with others, saying It was truly a memorable journey that left a lasting impact on them.

You can be part of and impact the lives of more people who need help in our city and together show them the way, the truth and the life.

We invite you to be part of our ministry so that together we can bring hope to our border town of Sderot.

Our work would not be possible without the help of partners like you, so we ask you to consider in prayer the possibility of a monthly commitment that will allow us to continue with the Lord’s work here in Israel.

Sincerely yours
