The season of the Biblical Autumn Holidays is once again approaching, with Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot bringing a spirit of renewal, joy and gratitude for the Jewish people. All around Israel, families are preparing to gather and celebrate these meaningful days.
Yet here in Sderot, on the border with Gaza, many families continue to face hardship. The constant tension and economic struggles leave parents and children uncertain about how they will manage, turning what should be days of celebration into a time of worry and need.
That is why our City of Life team is preparing once more to stand with them. In the coming weeks we will distribute generous food packages and supermarket vouchers to the most vulnerable families in our community: new immigrants, single parents, widows, Holocaust survivors and many others who would otherwise face these holidays in distress.
In addition, we are also organizing a large Sukkot concert to bring moments of joy, unity and encouragement to the people of Sderot. Music has the power to uplift hearts, and we want these families to experience celebration and hope in the midst of their struggles.
The Biblical Autumn Holidays begin with Yom Teruah, the Day of Shofar Blasts, on the first day of the seventh month. It is a holy convocation marked by the sounding of the shofar, calling the people to awaken, reflect, and prepare their hearts for what is to come. Just ten days later arrives Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the most solemn day of the year, dedicated to repentance, forgiveness, and humbling before God.
The season culminates with Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, a joyful week of celebration remembering God’s provision in the wilderness and His protection over His people. Families build sukkahs, temporary shelters, and gather together in thanksgiving and joy. These appointed times carry both deep spiritual meaning and prophetic significance, pointing to God’s faithfulness in the past, His work in the present, and the hope of His promises being fulfilled.
