The Biblical Autumn Holidays
MAJOR DISTRIBUTION OF SPECIAL FOOD BASKETS FOR THE NEEDY OF OUR REGION
One of the most important times of the year for the Jewish people, such as the Rosh Hashana and Sukot celebrations, is approaching very soon, and the atmosphere of joy and expectation is already felt among the population.
However, due to the constant wave of terrorism that our city Sderot faces on the Gaza border added to the COVID pandemic, during these holidays many families feel hopeless because they cannot meet their most basic needs as they struggle economically and mentally.
For that reason our “City Of Life” team is already organizing the large distribution of special food sacks and gifts to bless the most needy in our region, including needy young families, widows, immigrants, single parents and Holocaust survivors, bringing them comfort and encouragement amid their precarious situation.
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year
It is a two-day holiday that takes place in September and that recalls the covenant that God established with Israel. Men must separate themselves from evil and do good, since the beginning of the year is the time to render accounts before God. The horn in the image is a "shofar" and calls believers to recollection.
Sukkot: Feast Of Tabernacles
3,000 years ago, Israelis were slaves to the Egyptian Pharaoh. Moses was commissioned by God to lead the Israelis to the promised land. The journey took four decades through the desert and the 'festival of tabernacles' recalls that nomadic life every autumn. On Sukkot, the Jews live for a couple of days in a "suca" (hut) made of branches.
